Shaping communities across North Devon

Since our beginnings in 1946 as R Harris & Sons Builders Limited, the business has grown and evolved through generations of leadership, changing markets and industry transformation, while remaining firmly rooted in the values of quality craftsmanship, trusted relationships and commitment to our local community.

Over the past eight decades, Pearce Construction has helped shape the region’s built environment through a diverse portfolio of residential, commercial, education, regeneration and heritage projects. From iconic developments such as Ilfracombe’s Landmark Theatre, Clovelly Visitor Centre and North Devon College, to more recent schemes including Taw Wharf, Ilfracombe Watersports Centre and the transformation of Boutport Street Studios in Barnstaple, our legacy can be seen across the communities we serve.

Reflecting on 80 years of growth

Chairman David Parsons, who joined the business in 1982 and led the successful management buyout in 2003, reflected on the company’s journey:

“Pearce Construction has grown brick by brick over the past 80 years, but our success has never only been about buildings. It has always been about our people, their loyalty, dedication and pride in delivering quality work. Many who joined us as apprentices now hold senior positions within the company, which says a great deal about our culture and long-term commitment to developing talent.”

A proud moment

Managing Director Paul Knox said:

“Celebrating our 80th anniversary alongside colleagues, clients, partners and former employees was a proud moment for everyone connected with Pearce Construction. Boutport Street Studios represents everything we stand for — quality, craftsmanship, innovation and attention to detail. We are incredibly proud of the positive impact our projects continue to have across the region.”

A fitting venue

The company marked the occasion with a celebration event held at the newly completed 36 and 37 Boutport Street development, a project that perfectly reflects Pearce Construction’s expertise in heritage restoration, regeneration and modern construction. Designed to support North Devon’s cultural and creative industries, the scheme blends historic preservation with contemporary design and accessibility improvements.
